Believe it or not, adult humans have evolved to derive genuine happiness/contentment from kids. Chasing after the things that made you happy in youth as an adult simply won't yield the happiness it used to.

Wdym? In what way?
It seems like most people i know dont seem to be incredibly happy to have kids. I see people with kids and they are so miserable. Quality social relationships are more challenging than ever. Its hard enough to find a partner you like now you need to raise a kid you like too? Mind you, you dont even get to fuck your kids unless you are some monster legend. Many times your kids might hate you and want nothing to do with you after everything youve done and stuff.

imo you can still have appreciation for and enjoy being around kids, it’s just better if they’re not yours

Maybe their struggle to provide for them gives their life's a meaning. They seem miserable but they're very content
