I was born in 1999, so somewhat. I used to watch SpongeBob, Beavis & Butthead, and South Park at around that age. Also used to play The Sims 1 on PC, played PS1 and PS2 a lot, played a bunch of Flash games. Stuff like that. The internet and world in general was a lot better between 2000-2004 and maybe even from 2000 to 2007.
Things were simpler - or maybe that's because I was a kid. All adults see their formative years as the "golden age" of humanity, and see with rose-tinted lenses.

>2012
>the world is ending
>it never fucking ends
>just wait till you fucking die
is not the same religion constantly promised an apocalypse would take place
To be fair, the world was ending so many times from the 80s cold war, Y2K, people saying Bush was going to nuke the world, people saying Obama was going to nuke the world, the "Mayan calendar ending must mean doomsday," a few "raptures" that were supposed to happen. global warming. (Or was it cooling? They kept going back and forth on that before just saying climate change.) At one point you just stop caring about the "end of the world" and all that BS.

Nigga, everyone was wearing oversized T-shirts, chains wallets, and a form of head covering. (From hats, beanies, durags, etc.)
An excellent couple years for the Wigga community, the Golden age for them I'd go as far to say.
Special thanks to Limp Bizkit and Korn. And that Marshall Mathers guy too I guess

Special thanks to Limp Bizkit and Korn.
Do you think there was a large intersection between new metal fans and rap listeners? That strikes me as a very white music.

Limp Bizkit are just Florida men, wild and absurd, with brains baked by the Sun and the beaches.

Their mastermind went on to play industrial rock within a couple of years, and realistically, it all sounds more Ministry than old unsuccesfull "rapcore" bands.

Any teenager tuning on their 2000 album read Nine Inch Nails references at once:
You wanna fuck me like an animal
You like to burn me on the inside
You like to think that I'm a perfect drug
Just know that nothing you do will bring you closer to me

Was this directed at rap public? Certainly not.

Korn is also about grooves, intersected with proto-incel crying.

I just hardly disagree that MTV new metal translates into later white rappers. I don't see that. It's hecking guitar music with heavy riffs, through and through.

Industrial rock was "too 90s" and everyone was looking for something more wild. Wiggerism is secondary at best, and you hesitated to mention Linking Park, Papa Roach and whatever, for good reason.

One final remark that was in the back of my mind, it is that one of the most charismatic nu metal vocalists started to play ...death metal

Logical, right? The direction is clear and it's not toward wiggerism.
