God, I fucking HATE it when people are contrarian just for the sake of trying to be different and no other reason.
Yeah, no worries, we all make mistakes on things. If I was anywhere close to normal or conforming I highly, highly hiiiiiiiiiighly doubt I would've have been made fun of by everyone I knew since kindergarten when I was 6, real life bullying as well as online bullying, never being able to fit in anywhere, always feeling like a literal alien, feeling non-human, never making a single friend my whole life be it real life or online, my parents are the only 2 people who care about me and they don't even care about me that much, etc. Usually being normal or conforming means belonging to a group, having people by your side, etc. I never did, currently don't, and likely never will. No use even trying to fit in since people can always see through me. Might as well accept my role as the perpetual loner. But anyway, yeah, you can never really know a person's true intentions. Though it's often obvious when someone is trying too hard. Like a "quirky" tomboy girl who makes it a point to make sure how she absolutely hates anything and everything even remotely feminine and loves masculine things. Whether it's for the sake of it or not you can never truly know, but you can sense they're trying too hard. But yeah, ruthless conversationalists are definitely a huge thing. And yeah, they are basically huge manipulators. They know how to manipulate the conversation to get exactly what they want out of it. But yeah, devils advocacy is a pretty good way to describe that sort of thing.
