Personal Experience Going to Sydney next week + travel dreams

This thread will be a little bit of a blogpost.

So, next week I'll be going to Sydney to drop my sister off for a trip to Europe. I'm only really excited to go because I hate being stuck in my small, hick town. Granted, I love rural cities/towns, but it gets very claustrophobic.

I also plan on meeting up with a couple of my best mates. One is a bit up in the air at the moment - it just depends if he can get away as he lives about an hour out from Sydney; though, last time I was in Sydney visiting another friend (who will be meeting me again) he came to see me. However, the other one - whom I saw in January of this year - is one I'm about 99% sure I will be catching up with again.

Kind of wish I could go to Europe, but alas, I am a broke NEET living on disabilitybux. C'est la vie.

I've always kind of wanted to travel the world, while we're on the subject. I had plans to meet up with a friend from South Korea, but we've not talked in ages. In fact, I have no idea what happened to her. It's quite a pity, really. But, as Norman Bates said in Psycho, we have to keep lighting the lights and following the formalities.

I do have a friend that lives in Japan that said she'd be down to hang out if I ever visited. Trips to Asia from where I live aren't too costly, either, so it is feasible, even as a NEET. I definitely want to visit Italy one day to visit the cathedrals. That'd be nice.

I know it sounds very cliche but I think travelling the world would broaden my horizons and allow me to see what the world is truly like, and not just my depictions or observations online.

Of course, anything that breaks me out of my monotonous routine of rotting, reading, talking online, playing vidya, etc. is a great opportunity.

Get a temp job on ship, even if you have to accept illegal phillipino waged and have them drop you off in Spain or somewhere else that's lower cost of living than ozzieland and wire your neetbux to rent a cottage in the countryside for a few months,

Backpack back when you're ready to go home and ride the trans-siberian railroad to Vladivostok, catch a ferry to Japan and stay until the Japanese government reports you back to Australia

I wish I could get out more. Not really much to do in/around my neighborhood and I don't have the funds to go anywhere far.
Sorry to hear, fren. Being stuck in your own town for an indefinite amount of time is never fun.
I hope you are able to meet up with one of your mates.
Thanks man, I really appreciate that. And I hope you're able to get out of your town/neighbourhood for a while at some stage soon.

That's the only downside to having welfare in Australia - you can't leave the country for long periods of time (I believe it's ~6 months, though don't quote me on that). So realistically, it isn't possible. Best thing I can do is get a part-time job (I can work up to 30hrs/fortnight and still get my full disability pension) and then save that way.

That sounds quite nice. I'd need to study up on my Japanese (haven't learnt much since high school, when I took an elective in it) if I plan on visiting my Japanese fren.

One of the more annoying things about travelling (if not the most) is the visa/documentation part of it. It really sucks in the modern era how an individual can be so easily identified, tracked and documented.

unfortunate the U.S. is so car-dependent. I'd have to walk along busy roads with no sidewalks. Even then, the roads don't lead to anywhere interesting. Just other neighbhorhoods

Legit. That's one of the few things putting me off travelling overseas, the whole visa and passport bullshit. I get it, it's to stop illegals and all, but it's a pain in the neck for us law-abiding citizens.

Oh yeah, I've heard about the US having way more highways than railways. That's such a shame because if done right, trains are such a fun and nice way to travel. There's a few videos on YouTube about Aussie trains, such as this (which I haven't watched fully yet, but I have seen very similar videos; it looks so comfy and nice):

NYC is the only predominantly subway/train dependent city in the U.S. A lot of cities used to be walkable as well like Boston, Philadelphia, New York, basically any old city. Some still are but with the boom of car manufacturing and highways, everything is now car dependent.

That really is a pity, truthfully. It's a shame because not everyone can afford cars and the maintenance you need to upkeep them. It makes travel much harder for those that are less fortunate. Europe has a fantastic railway system, apparently. Australia's is middling, though it's decent enough.

There ARE bus systems in my area. The bus fair is pretty cheap too. Then again, there really isn't much places to go. The city is fairly ghetto and the suburbs lack anything worth travelling too.

Buses are nice, too. But I kind of hate catching them because the ones in my area are full of abos or junkies :pepecry:

It's mostly nigs and crackheads that use the bus. I've maybe used the bus in my area ONCE in my life. My parents would never let me on alone as a kid and they'd still caution me not to now.

Lucky.
I caught a bus to high school every day and I won't lie, it did toughen me up a bit. My bus route went through the ghetto in my suburb, so that was not fun whatsoever. There were a lot of retards that would often catch my bus, but I suppose you'd get that everywhere unless you were one of the preps and went to private schools and caught their buses.

In the U.S. most schools have a yellow-school bus that is strictly for students. I'd use that to get to school since I didn't drive while in high school + had no friends/family to get me there.

Oooh yes, I know those buses. I was never sure if they were real or not kek. We don't have any yellow buses in Australia (at least, as far as I'm aware). I always figured they were for movies until I saw some home videos with them on it. My mind was blown that day.

It was always fun to sit in the back. Whenever the driver went over a bump or down a hill, you would fly up from your seat. This is due to the back wheels being closer to the center and the farther you are away from the axle, the farther the back of the bus springs down.

The school busses also have no seatbelts, though in some states they are becoming mandatory.

Actually yeah, it's the same in Australia. It's quite surprising that the vast majority of buses here don't have seatbelts. I'm shocked they still don't in this day and age. It seems to be a major risk.

Same with public buses as well in the U.S., no seatbelts. Government doesn't care as long as you show up to work and pay taxes and keep hospitals running with expensive ass bills.

Relatable living in a small town is hell seeing same faces daily dealing with the same old thing it kills ur mental health
I have to live around all oldfags in my neighborhood that I see pretty frequently. No JBs which maybe is a good thing because when they do see me, they laugh/insult me. Last time I saw one I got screamed and called a "pedophile" from across the street. Another time two foids were riding their bikes, one turned their head and look directly at me, then started laughing with their friend as they rode away. Was wishing some car did 100 down the road and hit them.

I've never understood how the US doesn't have at least a semi-socialised healthcare system. The one in Australia is very similar to that of the UK's, thank God. Given how many times I've been in the psych ward (30+ at this point), I think it's safe to say I'd be in quite a high amount of debt had I been born in the US.

We have private healthcare but I've heard there is a longer wait time to see a doctor in countries with a universal healthcare system. I find it to be kind of bs considering it takes a month to see a specialist here sometimes.

Dealt with it my whole life. I wouldn't make it a point to move out considering it's rare now that I'm not around people much anymore. I've also decided to take walks at night when no one is out and foids are scared of getting raped kek.

Yeah, it can take a while. It usually goes off a priority system - in which, depending on the severity/urgency of your case, is if you'll get in first. I think that's the best way to do it, personally.
