[QUOTE="GGWP, post: 46086, member: 93"] They're good essays, man. It's characterization. You are miles ahead in spiritual development compared to a someone that doesn't think to articulate their own thoughts at all. I think most people just live off of vague heuristics because it's all they need, but tackling the big questions means that you're engaging in introspection, which is important. You're right in that life It's one desire after another, an endless samsara of desire. You're completely correct in identifying that Capitalism subordinates these desires and sells them out to you. But such desires are just biological, there is another 'us' in the mind that can reflect on desires and alter their course, and also that can observe these desires as they float by. I think meditation is a way to strengthen areas of the brain involved in regulating base desires, allowing humans to use the one unique tool at their disposal to fight against brutal nature: the advanced human mind. Pure meditation could allow us to connect to God or enlightenment, which is to do with complete control and understanding of one's own internal desires. In the hierarchical model of consciousness, this is identified as the overmind. I'm terrible at meditation because of my overly scientific mind, always trying to intellectualize suffering. I think though that you might be able to achieve this transcendent state because you are not obsessed with projecting scientific concepts onto the formless natural world like I am, and that if you keep at it you might find that, after a little while that mind of yours will clear its doubts, and you'll be able to grasp something profound about the world that could just change your life for the better.
