I just realized I haven't played a single game this year. A full six weeks without gaming. This is unusual for me. Usually, I would have played a little bit of something by now, even if it was a couple of hours on a Saturday. I played a bit in December. But nothing this year. Thinking about it, I feel like I've reached a milestone. I likely passed it a year or two ago as I wound down on long gaming sessions and just didn't realize it. I'm clearly no longer addicted to gaming. I certainly was in my teens, 20s and at periods throughout my 30s. There's just nothing new or alluring in the gaming world right now that interests me. I'll probably play a new game later this year if I see something that catches my eye. But I no longer care about missing out on the launch of a new blockbuster. Who cares? Not me. As I stated before in another post, gaming feels like work to me now, and if I'm going to work I'd prefer to get paid for it. Why waste hours learning the rules and various systems of a new game if it has no application to the rest of my life? Why play an old trusted game if it's just going to result in the same outcomes? It's just not that entertaining anymore. I'd rather waste time in reading, watching movies/anime, or other hobbies where I have room to grow. I guess that's what it must be, I reached my gaming peak a while back, don't really have anything to show for it, and there's nothing left to be gained from it. Where do I go from here? I don't know, but certainly not lost in a game.
