I'm thinking about many cases now but my brother prime example. For his best friend's birthday tomorrow, they're going to go to a fancy steakhouse, just the two of them and smoking weed with some other guys after. The more I think about having a best friend the it seems like your essentially platonically dating a guy. They basically do all the activities I do with my gf but call it hanging out instead of a date.
This is kind of parallelled in many cases people start dating their best friends get super jealous & talk shit
Friend groups of 3 never really work out either. There's always a slight skew where one of the guys is usually the least favorite until there's an occasional dynamic switch.
Observationally, I see that people with best friends tend to be less likely to have a long term partner or if they do they essentially treat them like a side piece. Maybe by design humans only have a place for one heartfelt connection or person who they go to first.
