I'm sure they have contributed a lot more than just architecture, but Islam (or any 'outdated' religion by that matter) is simply incompatible with a modern, technologically advanced civilization (if we ever reach that ceiling as I'm sure the universe should be interpreted as a machine, or just as an enclosed information based system and in that case, we'll get to the "Tower of Babel" moment any time soon) and that religion by default creates a lot of infighting and further accelerates society's fragmentation. Also, you can't forget the fact most "traditionally" Islamic countries are often low trust societies, so that's another factor to consider.
