Who experiences suffering?

[QUOTE="JayJaySattva, post: 44221, member: 147"] We know that consciousness can be defined as the "knowing" of phenomena as they happen. When there is no knowing of phenomena, then everything happens unconsciously. The thing is that most of the interactions between people occur unconsciously! So when somebody gets insulted, hurt, and so on, where is that "I" that is being insulted, hurt, and so on? Most people would say "it is me!", but the thing is that when things occur unconsciouly, human behaviour is "instinctive and automatic", that is, it just can't be controlled consciously, so who or what is getting insulted, hurt, and so on? I mean, pain has an impressive way of becoming "personalized", and this is most evident when analyzing unconscious behavior, because most suffering arises unconsciously. Thoughts such as “Why is this happening to me?” are involuntary, so who is suffering at that specific moment? What or who suffers because of what is happening? You know what else? All these involuntary thoughts are constantly reinforced unconsciously, creating a story in which someone has experienced X, and therefore this and that. It all happens without us realizing it.
