Discussion Why do non-Americans care about the US elections

Personally I am entirely ignorant of politics beyond a historical context and don't really care, but these elections have been all over my feeds and algorithms even though I don't follow any Americans on YouTube or elsewhere. I get America is THE superpower and whatever happens there affects the rest of the world but this is just a presidential election. The president doesn't have that much control over the economy or foreign policy as far as I know. And why would someone from a random bumfuck country like Indonesia care at all? My country is wartorn and has American globalists rubbing their hands in it so all that concerns me is the head of intelligence and defense minister. Even then it's very distant and I wouldn't feel the effects until I'm way older. Is this just globalism going turbo or people who spend too long online sticking with political ideologies to pass time? A lot of what the two candidates talk about are things that should only concern American citizens but I keep seeing people from Egypt and Saudi repeating their talking points. Saudi is a fucking monarchy nothing will change

I think it's because the United States has a huge amount of influence over the world. We're about half the size of the entire continent of Europe and we provide "aid" for well over a hundred countries every year. Whoever wins presidency will affect the entire world on a national level.

But that's just the president. He's effectively a representative with limited actual power. If it's about aid they should be more concerned about the deep state and foreign ministers and maybe the court. The president is just for show. Makes no difference when they're all part of the same lobby

To be fair Canada can be affected. Canada's economy basically relies on exporting oil to USA. If a conservative cabinet decides to push for self reliance Canada is fucked. Too bad being a petrostate
