First humans were hunter gatherers hunting animals for meat and gathering fruits, then we moved to agriculture. And we're farmers growing food. Surplus population ensued afterwards. Empires and wars started, plus disease and famines. Then we industrialized and moved from countryside to cities and urban lifestyle for factory jobs and later STEM careers. But some people reject this way of making a living, due to health issues, personal circumstances, family / genetic inadequacies, neurodivergence, bad feedback loop from negative experiences with society and people, poor status, or just general laziness or being abused as children. If the juice ain't worth the squeeze (reward) > then what's the point of backbreaking labour waging with blood and sweat > if you don't get a wife and kids as a reward ?
