Venting The time a "friend" of mine crossed the fucking line with me...makes me mad just to think about it.

TL;DR At the bottom.

For me it was this one time when I was probably 18, but maybe 19. I knew this online friend I met from online games since like... I'm not totally sure, but likely between 10 and 12? Late elementary school or early middle school, basically.

But either way, I was friends with him for like a good 6 to 9 years or so before he crossed the line. Not sure of the exact numbers but I knew him for a decent while.

We didn't talk super consistently or anything, but we talked more or less on and off from time to time.

When he was younger he was cooler, when he got older he became kind of a dick, but I was willing to overlook it.

He was the type of guy to banter a lot, and I mean A LOT. And he NEVER really took anything serious, made everything into a joke. In moderation this was fine, though there were some times he was kind of hurtful. Ultimately though I saw him as a guy without any bad intentions, just someone incredibly goofy and perhaps not the brightest.

One day though...

He invited me to a chat room with his other friends. And they were basically just talking about random shit and sending a bunch of random memes and videos at the same time. And some of them also had their mic turned on, and they were just shouting random stuff really loud and singing purposefully bad. Needless to say, kind of chaotic, lol.

Then I made some sort of joke. Don't remember exactly what it was, but probably related to anime or fictional characters. And the people in the room acted "offended" by it, typing in all caps and everything. And then I got kicked out. I assumed they were joking.

The next day I asked him if I could join the room again, and he said: "No because everyone in the chat room thought you were pathetic, dumb, mentally ill, and retarded."

I somewhat took this as a joke. But suddenly I had people from that chat room spamming my PMs with all sorts of shit. Most notably death threats, but also just spamming nonsense and certain memes over and over, bringing my notifications up to like "99 new messages" or something like that. One or two of them even doxed/swatted me.

I asked him about all of it and he was like. "Huh. I have no idea. Weird."

Then there was this one user from the chat room who acted nice towards me. They were like "I hear the other people have been giving you a heard time, huh? Well don't worry about it. You can talk to me just fine. I'll listen. I'm not even really friends with those guys, I just hang out with them because I'm super bored and so I have something to do since I've known them for so long already." And so I talked to them.

What was weird though, that same person randomly said hurtful things, and they were like: "Oh my god, oh my god, don't mind it! That was just my boyfriend going on my account! He's so silly! He has a dark sense of humor, and I don't encourage him to do this stuff, but at the same time I can't bring myself to stop him! He's just so lovely and I trust him so much!"

I believed this for a while. But then that person "confessed" and completely changed their demeanor: "Haaaaa! You actually believed this shit! There never was a boyfriend! It was all me! I was actually was one of the most vocal ones of the chat room of people who hated you, and you totally feel for it!"

Then I told my friend about this person who pretended to be nice, and was like: "Haaaaa! Can't believe you fell for it! You really are a fucking retarded worthless dumbass! And I'll be honest with you. While I didn't tell the friends from my chat room to go send death threats to you, I gave them permission to. How could I deny? They're my friends, and much better friends than you at that. And besides, it's all just a joke bro. Don't want people to fuck with you? Don't do or say stupid ass shit!"

Then when I told him about how he crossed the fucking line and how he went way too far and really hurt me emotionally/mentally, he kept brushing off my complaints with sarcasm. Like: "Boo hoo hoo little fuckin' baby got offended! Seriously bro, when real trouble comes you'll be screwed if you think this is the worst!" or "Alright alright alright I get it you're as fragile as an egg. I could do as much as fart on you and you'd crack. That's you. But I'm not gonna change myself for a fragile little egg like you."

Then I stopped being friends with him. I told him: "I don't wanna be friends with you anymore. We are fucking done. I'm blocking you on everything I have, and never talking to you again."

And his last message was something like: "Oh please oh please baby don't go away! I'll do anything! I'll even suck your dick for you! Sike! No one will be missing your sensitive little bitch ass anyway. You'll be doing all of us a favor."

And after that I just simply didn't look back.

In general a lot of people both online and in real life have been and continue to be dicks to me, but this was extra hurtful with the fact that I knew him between 6 and 9 years. During our best times I even low-key saw him as a brother, though somewhat more one-sided on my part since I get overly attached easily. And then he pulls this shit. Banter is common, it ain't no thing. But what he and his chat room friends pulled off was straight up sadistic, cruel, and evil. And all just because I made an unfunny joke? I wouldn't even do that to my worst enemy. I'd just block my worst enemy and move on.

TL;DR Basically this online friend I had known from when I was like 10 or 12 or so let his other friends from his chat room group send death threats to me a whole bunch of other stuff. And when I complained his response was basically "it's just a joke bro, stop being so fucking sensitive." We're not friends anymore.

Yeah that sounds rough. It seems like as he grew older he started to value you less over his other unpleasant friends. You got to experience the nasty side of his personality. Whether he was influenced by his friends or he was bound to be that sort of person I guess you can't really be too sure about.

Thank you for your response. And yeah, that's basically exactly what he did, to a fucking t. It's relatively common to grow apart from old friends as you get older, but usually almost nobody does what he did. And yup, nasty indeed. Yeah, can't know if it was due to his friends or if it was already in him anyway. He was almost always kind of a jerk, but not really in a malicious way. More in a banter-like way. Then he pulls this. But yeah. We'll never know, and I don't wanna know, lol. I had blocked him on everything and he blocked me on everything. And I don't plan on turning back, ever.

Yup, exactly. Looks like you truly can't ever trust anyone besides yourself. Some people can't even trust their own parents or family, to make things worse.

To be fair I didn't talk to him super consistently in those 7 or so years, but that still doesn't justify what he did. I wasn't just some rando he just met. I practically grew up from child to young adult in the time I knew him.

If that's how he treated me then I do not wanna see how he treats his enemies or randos.

rule 27 of zzebra code
never attach your emotions to another male

rule 39 of zzebra code
trolls would beg for there lifes and piss there pants if faced with a real shooter
For rule 27, yup. Never attach your emotions to ANY human being period. Depending on who you are even your parents might tell you to just "shut the fuck up and man up" when you attach your emotions to them.

As for rule 39, correct once again. Usually anyone who fucks with other people, be it online or in real life, they would completely shit their pants if faced with any true conflict. Truly "badass" and confident people don't feel the need to do stupid shit like putting others down or making fun of them.

These jokers are all too common

Hate to sound like a woman and i just read the short response feel free to cringe/disregard

He sounds like a psychopath your lucky he set hes sights on someone else
Don't worry, it's fine, lol.

But yeah. Those jokers basically just use jokes as a facade for their cruelty.

And yeah. Can't believe it took 6 to 9 years to find out he was a psychopath, though to be fair he didn't show signs before this.

And all of this shit just because I made an unfunny joke. Jesus fucking Christ. Does he do this to everyone who makes an unfunny joke?

Even if he was joking he went way too fucking far. I was literally getting daily death threats from his friends from the chat room, and once or twice they literally doxxed/swatted me, making the police come and kick down my door while yelling and shouting, and pointing lots of rifles at me, my dad, and my mom. And he know about all of this too. They asked him for permission and he gave them permission. He didn't tell them to but he gave them permission to.
