This subject deserves it's own thread as it's purely non-political. It outlines how dangerously close we came to civilization ending.

This newly released paper shows that NASA's solar orbiter detected an X8.7 followed by an X16.5 class flare back-to-back in May 2024 on the opposite side of the Sun. Had Earth been in the firing line, it would have knocked out the electrical grid permanently, frying electrical equipment, and life as we know it would have ended. It would be a global Bronze Age style collapse, with 95% of humanity dying off.

Why isn't this in the news? Why was it released in a low-key, hush-hush, non-alarmist way? This isn't fake. This is the real deal. Every day we have left to prepare is precious. Don't waste it.

I used to follow atleast one person on Youtube that would talk often about latest dangerous solar flare, These people never explain what is so dangerous about it.

I suppose nobody knows because nobody knows what would have happened. Maybe nobody wants people to know. People could die arbitrarily without good reason? Just because the Sun? Maybe people are better off not knowing?

We just got an Earth facing X2 class flare 30 minutes ago. No big deal by itself. But if we get a cascade of flares that increase intensity, that's what we need to watch out for.

Yeah, they were mostly rhetorical questions. The world we live in is far less stable that most people imagine. It's kind of insane that we ignore it though, because it will eventually happen.
