Every day after school or during break, I would read revenge isekai light novels on my shitty ereader. I read many stories like this. I remember pretending to be Keyaru from Redo of Healer , fighting back against my bullies. The teacher asked me what I was reading. I was too ashamed to respond. In the real world, I was mocked frozen, but in my fantasies I was never humiliated.


The structure goes something like this if you arent familiar:
Betrayal -> Humiliation -> Powerlessness -> Sudden reversal -> Total dominance over abusers.

These revenge isekai loops are digital heroin for the powerless. Sounds like those revenge isekai were your escape hatch when shit was bad IRL. Nothing wrong with finding something that helped you cope, but yeah, living in that loop long-term keeps you stuck in the 'powerless' phase forever. I mean this in the way a brother who cares about you would.

Yep, I actually acted on these thoughts sometime in junior high. This is an excerpt from my old online journal blog thingy:

I was participating in mandatory volleyball. A friend [A] spanked me after I erred. I did not retaliate. A stranger(C) imitated him.
I tackled him down to the grass. Classmates were shocked: "what are you doing faggot'. A female classmate(B) initiated rumors on my sexuality.

A couple weeks later, [C]'s locker area was messy. Food crumbs were in front of mine. Classmates told me: "this is none of your business. It is his locker". My boundaries were once again violated. I could not control what was in front of me. The janitor moved his bag inside. I remember this moment vividly. [C] exclaimed: "Who moved my bag?" He saw me and ran. I tackled [C] and placed him in a choke hold.

Do you like non-isekai revenge stories as well? I got 2 pretty good ones, but I'm not sure if it's what you'd particularly like.

They are closer to... A 'reality check' rather than a proper revenge, even if the MC does get their revenge.

I'm sorry to hear that though, it's completely understandable why you got into such work when reality was cruel to you.

I dont really read these kinds of stories anymore, but I didnt really like non-isekai genres. I wonder why?

Well, it might be because of what was making me hesitate in the first place; as works like Holyland, Shamo and such try to be more 'realistic' in their revenge.

Something like that tends to be more disheartening when one has little-to-no confidence in themselves, as someone in that sort of situation can only really picture themselves being able to fight back as long as one gained some insane power-up.

And they are more moral driven story-wise compared to the country-destroying reincarnated warlord of a MC, so it doesn't feel as satisfying to those who suffered long enough to where they struggle to see their bullies and those who mocked them having value to the world.
