Credit maxxing vs Debt slavery?

I don't even have a credit card.
The only potential benefit I see in having one is that you get travel insurance and purchased goods insurance and are able to rent a car in another country.
But for day to day use I do not really see any benefits of having one. I should not be spending money I don't have in the first place.
