I doubt if you were to ask the average individual in early 1940s about what they think about WW2 or Hitler, they'd reply the same way as someone today does.
Their reply would most likely be that they don't care about politics and just want to be left alone.
The thing with history is that things were never really as crucial(for post-industrial revolution atleast) as they teach us they were.
If you ask some Iranian guy about what they think about US, their reply would mostly be negative and define how Americans "Oppress Women", far to the surprise of Americans who think otherwise.
By all this I totally AM NOT in support of Middle East/Germany or even the US frankly speaking.
My point is to demonstrate what politics truly entails.
Just notice how the worst people in history had to be politicians and not criminals who have far worse actions than that of the former.
It's a depressing reality that not a single political group desires the objective good for humanity, or even promote logic for that matter.
