Hmmm...I never thought about it that way, but you're actually right! While I myself don't necessarily watch that much anime (to be more specific I watch anime, Western animation, and live action stuff all precisely an equal amount, so not too leaning too much into any of the three categories) I was always weirdly enticed by the designs. They were so weirdly cute in a way that Western animation and live action stuff was never able to capture. Even cuter than puppies, kittens, babies, etc. Gotta wonder how they did it.
