Their business became obsolete after the advent of streaming. I remember going there as a kid, combing through the aisles. Backrooms vibes.

We had something called Family Video here (ig Blockbuster for more rural or smaller cities). It's where I got anime dvds for series I liked, like Bleach and Inuyasha, I don't think they carried the series just random movies, and got introduced to series like Dark Cloud, Suikoden, and Disgaea. This was like pre 2010

Good times renting a vidya game for the weekend trying to complete it before it needs returned

Video/electronics stores still stock DVD's though you'll have to buy them, and they're selling them alongside a bunch of other crap. Borrowing movies from the library is functionally similar, but it doesn't feel the same.

Point is there's no longer stores dedicated solely to movie rental and home media. This was an era when technology was still very much physical and 'clunky', and home video was king. Now we just have streaming service slop.

It's a shame.

Yeah, also the physical aspect of discovering a film you had 0 intentions of watching. Could always stumble upon some obscure niche movie in whatever genre piked your interest. Everyone discusses/watches whatever algorithm feeds them now.

yeah classic, I have a lot of memories with blockbuster, Hollywood video, and game crazy! One of the blockbusters I went to a lot was next to subway, the smell will never leave my mind.

There are still some vhs and dvd rental places, real mom and pop stuff. They have a nice vibe to them and are always playing movies with couches everywhere. The real hole in the wall place still exists really depends on where you live.
Gilgamesh @Gilgamesh I'm replaying Disgaea on my phone right now. I enjoyed that game so much in HS.
