I was just thinking this morning that modern states need nerds to be competitive, regardless of what type of state. China during the Cultural Revolution closed all universities for 10 years (apperently), but shielded off nuclear scientists at secluded bases.

So your perception as a kid is completely wrong - math olympiads (wee!), high scores on exams (wee!); none of this is about you.

"World economy" would just as happily make the population illiterate and offload its needs to an advanced AI. And adjacent biomass, it just tries to pay the bills as it always has been.

I feel like over-intellectualization leads nowhere though, most things are quite simple. We could solve a lot of our issues if we just got straight to the point in a day if we wanted to.

If you are a neet the shock is really intense to basically any social dynamics, people change from night life to a job, so you must make a analogy.

That's too small a sample. I will agree with you, a bad friend group is a bad time. As you said, better be alone than be with bad company. That's not the "normie world" though (which as others said, vague), and you don't HAVE to be alone.

Allow me to share a personal experience if you care: back in high school, I was in a friend group that eventually became toxic because of just ONE guy. Yes, one guy. Somehow pressured us into becoming toxic too, and I could slowly feel all of us adopting some of his negative traits and behavior over time, even though none of us are "bad" people per se (except for that guy). At some point, I would feel suffocated and breathless at just the prospect of having to meet up with the friend group at school. Every time. I got so fed up with it that I just left the friend group without elaboration because I did not owe them any. This was one of the best decisions I have made in my entire life (I mean, only 20 years so maybe that's not much for you). It's worth it :)
