I've written a previous thread discussing the importance of finding or creating an optimal environment for yourself, but it's only now that I've fully realized how large of a component that your environment and surroundings* play in affecting your state of mind. Cities are literally designed to break you down and destroy your soul. In practice, one can establish their own little sanctuary among the barrens but it would be a difficult experience when your surroundings are not conducive to your needs and is working against you over time. I would highly recommend relocation as a course of action, especially if you are living in a particularly shitty urban environment.

*In this theory, I distinguish between the terms 'environment' and 'surroundings' where the former is your active, working and immediate environment, eg. Your living space; and the latter being the terrain and infrastructure around you.

I feel like no matter what path we try to take, we're always going to need cities/urban areas to technologically/economically progress as a society.

Living an amish lifestyle is nice until you start missing the luxuries of living in a city.

Sounds like a utopia ngl, I mean maybe vacationing to a rural town to live in for like 2 weeks sounds nice or vacationing to a mega-city but I'd wanna live in a well-designed and planned suburb.

Yes, but it doesn't mean that you as an individual can't distance yourself away from them.

I think it's a matter of habit and dependency tbh. You won't know until you've tried and become accustomed to it. After all we've lived that kind of lifestyle for hundreds of years until fairly recently.

Totally up to your preferences as an individual but I'm speaking more to those people who are adversely affected by these kinds of conditions, myself included.

True but it's inevitable that some people won't get accustomed to that new lifestyle and go back to the urban lifestyle, and while it might seem unrealistic and unlikely that society just packs itself up and decides to fully switch back to an agrarian lifestyle, I still think not everyone gets the privilege of getting to live away from mainstream society.
