Humanity (Lilin) is the offspring of Lilith, the "Black Moon" that crashed into Earth.

The conflict is a Resource War over which "Seed of Life" gets to own the Earth. Yui didn't invite the Angels; they were just waking up to reclaim their territory.

If anyone is "at fault" for the Angels waking up, it’s the SEELE old-heads and Gendo for the Second Impact research in Antarctica. Yui was just the one who realized the only way to survive the "Admin Wipe" was to merge with the EVA-01 hardware.
