Venting God, I fucking HATE it when people are contrarian just for the sake of trying to be different and no other reason.

What brought this to mind was a YouTube video I watched the other day. Don't remember the exact video. But what happened in it was, first a guy holding a camera approaches this relatively large group of like 6 or 7 people. About half of them were female and half of them were male. All of them seemed to be some sort of goth/emo/alt/whatever, based on their hair, clothes, makeup, etc. If it matters this took place outdoors, they were all sitting on the grass. And then the conversation went something like this. Let's call the guy who was filming "Camera Guy" and the group of 6 or 7 people "Others."

Camera Guy: Hello to all you guys! How are you all doing?

They all say in unison: Good, good, very well, thanks, how are you?

Camera Guy: I'm doing very well, thank you! Anyway, aren't you guys supposed to be the type that believes in "fuck society" and "fuck the police" and shit like that?

Others: Well it's a little bit more complicated than that. A lot of police are terrible, yes, but genuine good police also exist.

Camera Guy: How is it possible that good police exist if every single day all over the world they kill millions of people? Are you really in support of that?

Others: No no no you're getting this all wrong my guy, we basically just answered that already, I have no doubt a lot of police are like that, but there are police out there going after actual criminals like murderers and rapists.

Camera Guy: But the fact that they do it at all means that the whole police system is corrupt. And by supporting it you're all terrible people.

Others: DUDE! We are not supporting what all those police do! Lots of police are horrible and should be fired, yes, but we can't let murderers and rapists roam free to do whatever they want with no consequence!

Camera Guy: You all are just seeming like a bunch of fucking posers to me. People like you are usually the first to go against the police, and now you're supporting them?

Others: Okay, if it's what you wanna hear, FUCK THE POLICE! Ya happy now? FUCK THE POLICE! Again, FUCK THE POLICE!

Then in the same voice that the sharks of Finding Nemo kept saying "fish are friends, not food," as he had his hand over his heart, he said: No no no no no wait now guys! Police are our friends, not our enemies! Police are friends, not enemies, ya hear me?! Those poor men put their lives on the line every single day for us people! And a lot of them have loving families who would hate to see their father, uncle, or grandfather die!

Others: Dude. Make up your fucking mind! Literally just a few seconds ago you were preaching the literal exact opposite! Like what the fuck is wrong with you?! You see a group of people peacefully sitting down on the grass, and you first thought is to bother us with all these stupid questions?!

Then they all get up and start to walk away and leave.

Camera Guy: Alright now then! Walk away! Can't even finish an argument you started! POSERS! POSERS! POOOOOOSERS!!!

And just...just...was this guy mentally challenged or something? Like what was his goal?

Since it was a YouTube video you could say he was doing it for the camera, but he looked genuinely upset and distressed in the video, and he had a bunch of videos doing the same stupid shit. And when his viewers would call him out he would start to go crazy and threaten them. Not sure if his channel is even still up. I believe penguinz0/moist critical might've made a video about him, though I don't recall correctly.

This was a more extreme example of "people who are contrarian just for the sake of trying to be different and no other reason," but unfortunately I've seen a lot of people in my life, both in real life and online do very similar shit.

I like to be different
Don't know if you read the story in my original post (wouldn't exactly blame you if you didn't cuz it was kinda long as hell) but I was NOT calling out people who were different, I was calling out the type of person who literally argues towards a certain currently unpopular viewpoint, but then when people start to agree with them they change their viewpoint again just to spite the majority.

People who are actually just different naturally are cool. But people who just like to be contrarian and spite people are fucking pathetic.

I I loved your post but my impression is that you love normalcy and want to conform
Thanks for the nice compliment towards my post, but no, that wasn't even close to what I was trying to get at.

Nothing wrong with being genuinely different, I myself am nowhere close to normalcy or general conformity; but the guys like I described in my original post who just simply join the opposing side to spite the majority, and then they keep flip flopping between viewpoints just for the sake of it, being desperate to cling on to the unpopular view and oppose the popular view at all times...well what more can be said? They're just pathetic. They're trying too hard.

my mistake

I myself am nowhere close to normalcy or general conformity;
Thats not my opinion but I can be proven wrong

Usually people that do this have a different reason than just for the sake of it. Sounds like your opinion on them.
There are people that I would call ruthless conversationalists. They will lie, and say all kinds of falsehoods just to get what they want out of the conversation. Sometimes it serves mutual benefit like devils advocacy

Yeah, no worries, we all make mistakes on things.

If I was anywhere close to normal or conforming I highly, highly hiiiiiiiiiighly doubt I would've have been made fun of by everyone I knew since kindergarten when I was 6, real life bullying as well as online bullying, never being able to fit in anywhere, always feeling like a literal alien, feeling non-human, never making a single friend my whole life be it real life or online, my parents are the only 2 people who care about me and they don't even care about me that much, etc. Usually being normal or conforming means belonging to a group, having people by your side, etc. I never did, currently don't, and likely never will. No use even trying to fit in since people can always see through me. Might as well accept my role as the perpetual loner.

But anyway, yeah, you can never really know a person's true intentions. Though it's often obvious when someone is trying too hard. Like a "quirky" tomboy girl who makes it a point to make sure how she absolutely hates anything and everything even remotely feminine and loves masculine things. Whether it's for the sake of it or not you can never truly know, but you can sense they're trying too hard. But yeah, ruthless conversationalists are definitely a huge thing. And yeah, they are basically huge manipulators. They know how to manipulate the conversation to get exactly what they want out of it. But yeah, devils advocacy is a pretty good way to describe that sort of thing.

I’ve basically had more or less the same experience as you so I can relate. If you’d like I can be your online friend.

Always nice to find people I can relate to! While obviously it's not good for someone to go through those things, not feeling lonely in my suffering feels good, as the vast majority of people can't relate to me at all!

As for being my online friend, um sure? Why not? Having more people to talk to is always good! And it's not like I currently have a lot of friends (be it online or in real life) to talk to anyway, or an established friend group of any sort.

Fair warning though, I can be EXTREMELY inconsistent. Like sometimes I might use the internet almost every day, or sometimes I might not log into the internet at all for absurds amounts of time, like a year or so, lol. I don't even know what words I'd use to describe myself, but something like "ultra extreme mega introvert" or "anti-social" or something can describe it. Sometimes I just don't wanna talk to people period, both online and in real life. Sometimes humanity itself just stresses me out. Sometimes I feel too socially anxious talking to even my parents who I currently live with and have lived with my entire life. Heck, at times I can't even play online games or read comment sections. At times I can only play offline games. All of this might not make any logical/rational sense, but it's just how my mind works, even after therapy, meds, and mental hospital visits.

But still, having people to talk to is always nice! Even if my "socially battery" is depleted for like a year, no one can be alone for all eternity. Even if I need way less social interaction than the average person, humans are by nature social creatures, and if I had zero social interaction for the entire rest of my life even I would go insane!

So while I'm an extremely inconsistent friend, I can do my best to be there whenever I realistically can.

Same bro, I also have a limited social battery so the lack of being overly talkative doesn't affect me personally. I'm the more quiet type tbh. Just shoot me a dm whenever you feel like, I'll happily respond.

Ah, glad we can understand each other on that, lol. Some people in the past have gotten really, really, reeeeeeeeallly upset over me "disappearing," lol. Yeah, I'm basically the quiet type too. And whenever I tried talking more in real life people usually just tell me I'm annoying as fuck, so there's the negative reinforcement, lol. But yeah! I'll shoot you a DM literally right now, so I don't end up forgetting like I almost always do, lol.

I can have Chad-like charisma with normie looks, but without 'looksmaxxing,' the whole social group turns me into a weirdo. My humor also needs to be more NT than dark triad. Chad-like charisma should be used during confrontations, which occur when you've achieved a good level of attraction. At this point, a 'normie' might try to 'mog' you without effort, expecting a ignore of the staredown or other monkey attitude. This alone gives the NT guy an advantage. Therefore, we need to break the negative feedback loop by increasing dominance
