Halo is an egalitarian normie game, probably the quintessential normie indoctrination machine.
The true conspiracy of Halo isnt about the narrative or character design, even if I could delve into that aspect as well. Its embedded in the very mechanics of its gameplay. While normies obsess over whether female characters wear boots or not, theyre missing the real ideological warfare being waged through the games fundamental design principles. These principles are also demonstrable and refer to actual efforts being done to teach normies egalitarian theory.
Halo emerged from the same psychological rot as the self esteem movement that was poisoning education and society around the 90s. Game designers, armed with studies like those referenced in "The Art of Game Design: A Book of Lenses," approached game development not as creators of challenging experiences but as social engineers seeking to "retain gamers" by ensuring no one felt inadequate.
I found out some of these studies on this book: https://rsd2-alert-durden-connectio...the-art-of-game-design-a-book-of-lenses_3.pdf
These studies, presented in a seemingly neutral, non ideological manner, were actually implementing radical egalitarian ideals. The research showed that by tweaking certain parameters, games could psychologically reward players who werent achieving traditional measures of success like kill counts. The solution? Reward teamplay, reward cooperation, reward participation itself. Essentially creating a system where everyone gets a trophy. Even the less skilled, the lazy ones, the guys who didnt have good reflexes, they too would be rewarded for some reason. This achieves the goal of "retaining users" as well, but I argue this is not the main goal. I argue Halo is a conspiracy theory.
Quake, Unreal Tournament, Painkiller, Serious Sam. These games were complex ecosystems built on fundamentally unequal mechanics, gaming itself was understood as unequal, uneven, nobody was thought to be equal to another player. They featured vertical maps with multiple layers, architecture also fairly complex, air mobility, complex weapon systems with combos, powerups with strategic respawn timers, and skill ceilings so high that matches could legitimately end 50-0. Weapons were also more in number, as many as the keyboard allows to use. Your character would also unrealistically carry ALL these weapons at the same time, and swapping from one to another weapon was instant.
This allowed duels, air matches where you jump on walls and master doublejumps and combos, high pace, high adrenaline... but also zero equality.
These games were all about hierarchy and excellence. The skilled dominated everyone else, and nerdism became elitist. It was also the point in time where a nerd was slurred the most, and ragequitting normies would create social mythology that nerd people are recluse outcasts (totally true).
Halo systematically dismantled this entire paradigm. It introduced health regeneration, eliminating the need for map control and resource management. It flattened maps, reducing verticality and complex positioning. It slowed movement to a "grandpa simulator". It simplified weapons and removed combos and advanced mechanics. And all of this was done ON PURPOSE, by admission of the devs themselves.
Every design choice in Halo serves the egalitarian agenda. Health regeneration means poor positioning has minimal consequences, bcause you can hide and recover. Slower movement means reflexes matter less. Flattened maps reduce the advantage of players with superior spatial awareness. Limited weapon loadouts decrease the skill gap between veterans and newcomers. As a result, Halo matches ended up 9-5, or 3-0 or similar boring results.
Whats particularly insidious about Halo design philosophy is how it preceded and paved the way for the more overt SJW nonsense that would later infect gaming. The normies focus on narrative and representation, like women in boots, diverse character casts such as niggers, but these are all useless topics. Because it doesnt matter if the main character is an obese black woman or not, or if the devs are trannies or not. I would gladly play a game where the main hero is a tranny jew negress, if it wasnt egalitarian shithole like counter strike or halo.
Halo normalized the idea that games should be accessible to everyone regardless of skill level. It established the principle that player retention was more important than excellence. These are the same foundational beliefs that would later justify the overt ideological content that normies mistakenly identify as the problem.
This design philosophy has profound psychological effects on players. It teaches them that effort doesnt lead to superior results. It conditions them to expect rewards for participation rather than achievement. It creates an ecosystem where the skilled are penalized for their excellence through mechanics that artificially narrow the performance gap.
Ask yourself why "anti-SJW" critics never talk to you about the self esteem movement of the 90s... Why? the only widespread social critique we had came from shows like Daria and southpark. Mr.MacKey was portrayed as the useless school counselor, mocking 90s self esteem movement. In Daria instead there was the life coach feel good guy that motivates less intelligent students. And thats about it.
Despite self esteem movement had a profound impact in our culture, majority of "anti-SJW" want you to be compleltely unaware of it. As if it didnt even exist, as if SJW culture grew up in a vacuum and has no academia backing... just trannies on a keyboard. Its completely insane if you think about it.
This wasnt accidental at all. It was deliberate social engineering disguised as entertainment design. The studies referenced in design texts like "The Art of Game Design" werent merely observing player behavior, not at all, it was an effort to implement egalitarianism on a mass scale, which had profound effects in our society. The proof is right in front of your eyes, egalitarianism became so much accepted that the very "anti-SJW" movement does not questions it, its assumed as a default thing in life.
The normies who focus on narrative and representation are fighting the wrong battle. The real war was already lost through mechanics that normalized mediocrity and disguised it as accessibility. All games that normies deem "based" are instead shit. For example counter strike, arma, battlefield, call of duty. All these games are simply reiterating the self esteem movement original goals... adding just a sprinkle of SJW topics that are contemporary... For xample call of duty does also army propaganda and behavior modification (teaches economics to kids), and battlefield is the most credited source of history from normies... But this is just the tip of the iceberg.
The problem is Halo.
