Of course you cannot help it. Don't presuppose that you are an independent subject with freewill that is able to do as he pleases, and thus it is not like you can act different. Rather you are a conditioned process where the conditioning comes from your enviroment and your own body. The biggest delusion and thus where this mass of suffering comes from is to think that there is an "I" separated from the suffering that can control it.
Thus, your thoughts are a byproduct of your own body. Let's start from there. What do you think is causing those hopeful thoughts? What is the trigger? Attack the root cause, and free yourself from suffering.
Being helpful. Start helping people, teach them things, spread your knowledge, release your work for free, do charity work, etc.
Once you see the results, you will stop being hopeful, because they will punish you for being good.

The reality is you make reality in your mind more then you are willing to admit and often people convince them selves that being dark, cynical, and niehlistic is some sort of big brain idea. That it's some sort of cope but it's far more then date and you really have to crystalize that power in yourself.
