Most mammals go into heat. Human females along with some other primates menstruate , which means they are fertile throughout the year.
It is thought because the female is always sexually receptive, the male is more inclined to stay with the female mate and provide resources to help the child (parental investment). And if he leaves the female could end up mating with another man. So this increases pair bonding.
The difference is dogs and most mammals don't think about sex at all, until the female goes into heat and their genitals emit pheromones and swell up to signal to the males fertility. While humans constantly think about sex, but they can't tell when the female is ovulating.
The advantage of estrous is that there would be less incels in the species.
