Discussion Is therapy worth trying?

Every time they released me from the loonybin they tried to refer me to a therapist, every time I declined. I doubt it'd do anything but I was wondering if anyone here has any experiences with therapy, negative or positive. A part of my hesitation is I rather not think about things and just repress it with booze but my psychiatrist seems to not be a fan of my methods.

It depends on the therapist. Some are good and some are very bad. Don't get a chud therapist even if you want one. They can't help you.

I found a non NT therapist. She helped me a lot.

Just make sure you get a male one at least, even if he is a totally normie he will be able to relate to some level, a woman will *never* understand your male struggles regardless of background

It doesn't depend on the gender. It depends on how empathic and understanding he or she is willing to be with you to help you.

I also judged my therapist just as you, I thought only a male could help me. In fact, it was a woman the one who helped me heal my emotional repression. As I mentioned earlier, she isn't neurotypical, so that helps a lot as someone who's an aspie.

My psychiatrist told me about a therapist that likes working with autistic men so I will probably go to him and see how it goes. I have an appointment tomorrow so I will bring it up.
Hope it goes well. Even if the therapy itself isn't helpful, it can help you learn how to question your own ego and self-therapy later.

Therapy is overpriced but if you dont have anyone to confide in iand its free ts good. just do your own research on the drugs they offer.

I think anyone can benefit from therapy, but the extent to which it can actually prove helpful is contingent on how much effort you're willing to put in--and how much you're willing to lower your ego.

For me it was initially effective because it's an opportunity to vent judgement-free to people who at least pretend to listen to you, though when my life circumstances became way worse shortly afterwords due to physical, real world issues the CBT was useless. Basically therapy is a game of trying to convince you that you deserve to be happy and your current sadness is due to mental blocks and self-sabotage that they'll try and clear. They'll probably go through the mechanisms of how you rationalize your emotions, try and spot negative thinking patterns, tell you that your alcohol inhibits your ability to recover and some strategies to pick up your health again; they can also refer to psychiatrists for medication. If your current hysteria is due to non-mental, real adverse circumstances (abusive family you're stuck with, homelessness, getting fucked over by the system, severe bullying) they can't do much for you other than listen or get authorities involved if they think you're at risk of something happening.
