The cutoff point for parents actually being helpful or enlightening for their children have long since passed. The only thing that matters now is assets and connections (to siphon assets from these connections). Technology is simply developing too fast, creating a rift between the lived experiences of the parent and child. Children now are being introduced to systems that their parents aren't equipped to handle and it's only going to get worse.

To be honest I think it will be totally 'in' to be a neo-luddite in a few years. Instead of admitting to being a no-lifer with zero social media, one can just say that they 'distanced themselves from the mainstream matrix in search of personal development' and the people around you will think you're a wise sage.
