Going to share some magpie photos I've taken over the past few years. I personally really love Australian magpies; they're quite intelligent and once you get on ones good side, you're buddies for the remainder of its life, which is just really sweet in my opinion.

By feeding them every now and then. Definitely don't overfeed as they still need to know how to hunt on their own + you don't want them to build a reliance on you in case something happens and you can't feed them anymore. It sounds complicated I guess, but it's quite simple. Just feed them every now and then.

Are they a type of crow?

they might start bringing you gifts if you build enough trust with them. They're pretty intelligent birds.

Like @Enju said, they might bring gifts. They also don't swoop you, which is a common occurrence during their mating season.

Yes, I guess so. They're both part of the same family, the Corvidae I think it's called.

Birds are ultra based, the Corvid family are a special breed as they have exceptional memory and will befriend humans. I've heard stories of how they can pass on info about humans to their offspring and have generational intelligence of sorts.

Like another guy said, you should check if they give you gifts. It'll likely be berries or shiny objects. If they do that then they like you and that's cool.

Some Corvids can also mimick human speech, but I don't know if Magpies can.

Cute birds, take good care of them. It seems that they trust you too much, possibly you are lucky to live in a neighborhood of people decent enough not to mistreat birds or other animals, in addition to not adopting aggressive dogs that could go out to hunt them.

Birds are so cute and have low maintenance to take care of them, i would much prefer them over dogs tbh
