Let's have a thread for NEETs/hikikomoris. Let's get a "General" thread, so to speak, going. Maybe it could even be pinned. That's up to the mods, I guess.

I figured this is the right subforum for this kind of discussion as it would 100% be considered a "Lifestyle" (an unconventional one at that).

I'll get us started with a few questions.

1. What do you do to survive as a NEET? (neetbux, parents, disabilitybux, welfare in general?)
2. What do you do to fill in your days/nights?
3. Do you know of any NEET/hikki-related media that you think would be interesting and/or good for other NEETs?
4. Do you have any friends or a partner? What do they think of your unconventional lifestyle?
5. What's your biggest "cope"?

I guess I'll answer these too.

1. I rely on disabilitybux and royalties from my writing.

2. I usually just play vidya, read books, watch JewTube, chat with friends or hang out with them if they're available.

3. I do.
One is Welcome to the NHK, an anime that should be an obvious must-watch for any hikki. The novel is great too, but the anime just mogs it in every single way. I haven't read the manga, though.
Another is the study/book by a Japanese psychiatrist entitled, Hikikomori: Adolescence Without End. It's personally one of my favourite non-fiction books and really speaks to me.
And of course, I'm going to be shilling my upcoming novel. The name isn't set in stone yet, but I'm thinking either "The Western Hikikomori" or "N.E.E.T." as the title. Maybe even "The Hikikomori Elegy".

4. I have a group of friends that come to my town sometimes to chill with me. I also have a girlfriend. None of them seem to mind, and actually some find it endearing when I make fun of them for being "wagies."

5. My biggest copes are definitely video games, politics, and writing. I still want to be known one day as a writer, but we'll see just how well that actually pans out.

5. People use the word 'cope' as an inferior substitute for something that's better, (usually being successful in soyciety), but I don't really see it that way when I don't really care about or desire those things. Lately I've been too invested in forums.

1. As of right now, my parents fund my NEETdom.
2. I usually listen to music and daydream. Sometimes i’ll play vidya and watch anime or read manga/VNs.
3. You already mentioned NHK so i’ll toss in Mushoku Tensei as another anime pertaining to NEETdom, though it’s an isekai and mostly follows life in another world.
4. No. I have a “friend” i suppose, but we hardly talk, and im beginning to devalue relationships.
5. Daydreaming i suppose. Self inserting myself into my preferred reality helps me

1. I've been self-sustained through runescape from around 2018 to 2020, along with support from my parents.
2. I really don't do much anymore; after playing video games for so long, I mostly just browse forums, talk to people online, or occasionally read manga and watch anime.
3. Comfy NEET and Osakasyndrome are both great NEETubers who offer insight into the lifestyle with no edits or BS. Also, NEET Pride's NEET survival guide is worth checking out. Zabujard is another long term NEET; he was an old newgrounds artist and has been living the NEET life for about 20 years now, I believe.
4. I do have IRL friends, but most of them have moved out of the country. They were all NEETs at one point (besides a few), though most of them dropped off after high school. I currently have a girlfriend who’s also a NEET and was a big 4chan user she’s pretty dope. My friends have always been supportive of this lifestyle. Back when they lived near me, most of us would just couch surf or mess around together.
5. My biggest copes are probably youtube and sitting at my PC. Between runescape and youtube, one runescape account alone has about 1,289 days of gameplay, and another alt (played separately) has around 460 days, totaling 1,749 days of gameplay (41,976 hours) pretty retarded amount of fucking time. On top of that, I’ve spent 12–15 hour days at the computer watching youtube ever since if not more. Another cope would be not talking to many people for several years. I never really cared to, and I’ve never felt like I wasted my youth, given how much time I’ve spent online. My ultimate biggest cope, though, would be taco bell. I eat taco bell almost every other night if not more. It’s one of my favorite spots, and since I don’t indulge in drugs anymore, it’s about all I’ve got, lmfao.
