I’m using Instagram and I’ve noticed that people around me (late teens or in their 20s) have stopped posting their partners in their stories/posts. I could pick 5 random people I know, no matter the gender, and you’d never be able to tell if they have someone just by looking at what they post.

Why do you think that happens?

My theory is that we’re in a dating era where there’s barely any commitment anymore. People do everything that couples do without actually putting a title on it, meaning they can do the same things with multiple partners at the same time.

One personal experience that supports this idea: some random guy I knew from university requested to follow a girl I met on a dating app. The girl told me about it, and I was pretty surprised.

Years ago, before dating became a nightmare, actions like that (trying to get close to the girl of someone you know) would get you death threats where I’m from. But now, since there’s less commitment, people act like it’s not that serious and do things like this openly.

The exact same thing happened between some of my friends. My friend only got pissed because it was his main girl and not just a side chick.

I mean the reality of it is that this is a new phenomenon in the first place. What other time and space were people uploading images of anything to the internet. The fact of the matter if you should be sharing anything with strangers online, simple as.
