An Olympus post from a Japanese reverse weeaboo

Idk what I was supposed to take away from that writing? Or what you hoped I would have gleamed.

The moment someone floats "homosexuality correlates with political orientation" as if it's a serious analytical framework, you know they're operating at the level of pop psychology pattern matching rather than anything structural.

It's like Buzzfeed with a darker aesthetic, but the same epistemological quality. "You won't believe what these mass shooters had in common!!!"

Well wait let me guess, mental illness? suicidal ideation? Homicidal ideation? ostracization? Being bullied? Have higher then average IQ? Being straight? Being gay? Oh no clearly they right wing orrr wait maybe left wing?

Or maybe just maybe life is more then a binary set of yes and no.

It was genuinely interesting untill and then it collapses into this loose web of "sexually confused people do crazy things" which explains nothing and goes nowhere.

Let's just put it down here and leave it at that then, you think that people are just suicidal and they for some reason choose to make a elaborate plan to die and kill as many people as they can just to be remembered and it has no larger trauma or weight to it at all. Just some gays doing some killings.

Damn dem gays strick again!

Well get you next time you rascally homos!!!

Yes, absolutely. We both know that he knew that it was futile and that does not take away anything from his agency. He simply chose to be remembered for what he saw as genocide. He poured gasoline on himself and he knew that was not going to change anything about the Palestinian genocide. He chose his grave.

He stares back at you through his picture. Can you not see that? Reread my first post about him on this forum.

A lot of reading and writing and then... a seppuku?

Your Name Falling GIF by All The Anime — Anime Limited

I don't really follow the Frankfurt School, their followers just reject eveything and all conversation with them just falls apart.

Those two examples were very clear. Their desire for death occurred to them well before their adopted reasons. The other one, Morita, was writing love letters to death in high school.

I mean I could just ignore what's in front of me and say it was their ancestors.

Non-suicidal people don't plan suicides. Fire is hot, you know?

I'm not writing it off, in fact I sense that Mishima might have been hiding some absurd existential pain but it's something I can't really say because I haven't read ALL of his works. If there was honesty in the matter the innocent could be saved from this. Mishima dissuaded multiple people from committing seppuku with him. If he gave them those orders they would have died with him.

For others, the other part of this debate in on the Roko's Basilisk thread
"Non suicidal people don't plan suicides. Fire is hot, you know?"

That's not an argument, that's circular.

Using the act of planning a suicide as proof of suicidal ideation and using suicidal ideation to dismiss the message. It proves nothing except that he's committed to the conclusion.

How do you not understand that part?

"he was writing love letters to death in high school" that's a real observation.

Even now you are treating early death fixation as disqualifying the political content, which doesn't follow.

As I said my self I am a connoisseur of the macabre and have been since I was a child from poems, art and music.

This is what I'm saying your view is myopic, you treat people like they have no agency, are some sort of wind up toys that are shadows of there real selves. Like they are background characters or NPCs and have not inter monologue or thoughts of there own.

Someone can have a genuine relationship with death as a concept AND choose a meaningful death with real political intent. Those aren't mutually exclusive!

Brooooo.

Clearly like I said we have to agree to disagree agree, you have said nothing to make me budge from my position. If anything you have caused me to dig in deeper.

You just are not going to budge because the whole framework requires you to sees through the performance while everyone else is fooled by the message right?

Conceding to my point means conceding that the acts have genuine weight, which collapses your detached analyst position.

The final question I want to pose to you is , do you think all suicide bombers in the middle east are suicidal or do you think they are under a religious delusional?

I made my point clearly.

You're free to maintain your garden of ideas. You seem protective about Mishima and Morita even though they were clearly suicidal well before they committed their suicides.

Those two were about as clear as it gets and any other explanation is obviously cope. How do you ignore Morita's writings about death? My questions are simply "Are there others like this?" and "How many are there?".

This is a story about seppuku almost 10 years before his own suicide by seppuku. There is a clear theme here but was the "Tatenokai" theatre even necessary? Was it necessary to involve a 100 members?

This is entirely about the rabbit hole for me and there is more than enough data to start hypothesising theories. I'll follow this until I get tired of it.
Wow

"you seem protective about Mishima" a limp wristed attempt to psychologize me out of the argument, implying my pushback is emotional rather than logical?

While you sit here and continue to circle and drive the same point on two people while I bring up person after person, event after event disproving your ideas but those two yes they are where the conversation begins and ends for you.

Bravo bravo.

Thank you for conceding.

If the theory applies to everyone then it explains nothing

a theory that explains every case without exception isn't a theory, it's just a label.

You just said "all people who die for a cause were suicidal AND delusional"

which strips agency from literally every martyr, soldier, protester, and revolutionary in human history.

At that point the framework is so broad it's useless.

You painted yourself into a corner with that last line.

Comical that you though it was such a dunk that you added a little wrestler gif...
