At some point your bad luck becomes so pervasive and constant that IMO it's more insane to call it anything other than a conscious evil force. The ultimate question of course is how does one fight and kill their demons.

No luck in this universe. Everything is as is. If your looks were different, it would mean it wouldn't be you, because your genes would be different. There is no soul, so there is not a world in which you are someone else. Your looks are you.
