I prefer the old system. Negative "karma"/rep would be too much like Reddit, when Tab's post-Whitepill vision for this website was to make it more of a 4chan-like. Also, as @Sovereign said, it'd be abused a lot.

If there is anything that would be close to 4chan in its origins. The weight of your argument is weighed by its validity, identity therefore is of no importance.
