Understanding them as god of this and that usually very RPG. Many Hindus are actually like monotheists. Their god is the true god and and the rest are like angels. I've only seen this with visnu and Shiva deities to be fair. So basically it would be like Krsna is god of everything. Shiva is god of creation and destruction. Bramha is the god of creation and all beings exist within their jurisdiction. Durga is higher than Shiva and bramha but she's like the matrix. A better simplification of kali would be that she's the goddess of irreligion as she is kind of shivas daughter and Shiva is considered higher usually and leads the destructive gods

Ive never heard of the Skanda purana. maybe its because its not cannon or a purana hidden because it does not match western moral agonizing

I tried to look it up the sloka but couldent find it because it was too annoying
