I will put aside measurable data and mathematics and focus on the aspect of truth that fascinates me.
Applicable truth regarding the individual.

Introduction
Human beings live in a society built on lies and deception. From the first moment coming to this world, unless we are very lucky we fall into the hands of people living false lives. This isn't necessarily bad. Falsehood allows humans to get ahead in society and get along with other false people. It's an adaptive strategy that works for achieving the common modern goal of comfortable life.
The downside is without contact with truth we numb our sense of truth and inevitably lose the capacity to live true lives.
Instead we exist in systems of beliefs and base our identities on them.

What is truth?
Truth is nothing if not useful.
The most critical is truth concerning you and noone else. That is also the truth we tend to avoid at all cost.

How do we know truth?
Through feeling and inner knowing.
It's not an intellectual thing and is more in line with purity.
Human beings have something in them that responds to truth.

We can verify new information with experience or logic. But truth doesn't have to be logical.
Truth is directly felt.
When you hear it you're disturbed and speechless or you want to deny it. Truth disregards your feelings dispels all nonesense and destroys your carefully crafted beliefs.
Belief is the number one enemy of truth.

Look into epistemology; the general consensus is that truth is based on group consensus (consensus theory), but that mainstream truths are rebuffed through empirical analysis, such as with the scientific method that aims to be as neutral as possible. Regarding the individual truth is just mental patterns that, on average, contributed to the inclusive fitness of your genetic lineage.

Actually, gut feeling is pretty accurate most of the time, because instinct is conditioned by selection pressures that are typically constant enough to form a consistent reaction. Gut reactions are salient when it comes to raw survival, but I would say that the environment today can have some differences that can turn instinct into dogmatic stereotype. In any case, I would even go so far as to say that the concept of truth as rationalized by humans does not exist, such a concept is an anthropocentric projection manufactured for inclusive fitness gains. Even at a basal level the universe is steeped in (literal) uncertainty. The human mind is not a truth machine, it spins shadows into shelter, and the drive to be correct corresponds with fecundity.

Truth is extremely malleable. With any attempt to assert truth, you must first recognize the architecture that imposes it. In the case of post-enlightenment logical positivism, this is a byproduct of systematizing sovereignty biased by androgenic brain regions such as the inferior parietal lobule, caudate nucleus and basal ganglia, something that has been noticed and backpedaled via a surge of 'inclusiveness' because world leaders have realized that the noosphere was retrofitted as per the proclivities of a small caste of autistic european males and their neurological imposition of 'logic'. The world is not 'logical', at a fundamental level it's not deterministic or 'sensible', it's just that humans interpret the world as predictable because such conclusions are amenable to superior survival.
