I feel like it's more of/for an ingrained caste system. For centuries, the "lowest" castes (Dalits) were forced by social custom to clean human waste by hand because the "higher" castes considered the work, and the waste itself "spiritually polluting." Africans for sure have it, eating dirt pattys(not implying all Africans, Africa is huge.)
