Wrong mechanism though.

Strauss Howe isn't really history, it works because you get to pick the trauma and pick the quiet cohort after the fact.

It feels real like horoscopes feel real, you have your answer already picked out and now are looking for confrontation.

Real differences, if anyone cares:

Silents were scared of stuff that was tangible, things that bottom out or have floor.

Depression, war, bad but survivable.

Nuclear dread isn't new either btw, that's the boomers, duck and cover, MAD was a whole doctrine.

What's actually new is fear with no floor or base.

Can't hedge against "the concept of continuing."

Also Silents got their catastrophe in doses, radio bulletin, adult decides what you hear.

Gen Z gets it ambient, no edges, no mediator, algorithm doesn't care if you're ready.

Also also, Silents lived in a world with ceilings. born somewhere, worked local, four institutions gatekeeping all of culture(some of you will say this is the same as whatever you guys called being geolocked, something about feeling screwed by where you were born)

That's what makes a generation quiet, no exits.

Gen Z has more exits than anyone in history, bedroom to global audience, no permission needed.

So shaped to survive by adaptation sure, but the worlds are opposites not analogues.

If anything they are the loud silent Gen if you really need to make that comparison.

Just look at things like OF, YouTube and YouTuber making movies, podcasters becoming famous, comedians no longer need a stage, writers no longer need a paper, drop shippers no longer need a store front.

Idk it's cleaver on its face I guess if you don't think about it to much but the two are completely different animals.

Tldr: Gen z is worse off in ways but more free in others, they arnt simply the same.

interesting generation I always thought they dont really matter. Mostly because all music and aesthetics is the same as the older generations.

If they fail in life, they will be defined by generation sociology.

What is generation sociology? Its this idea of presenting identity templates and describe entire generations with this dehumanizing language of calling them "a generation" and explain away all their problems.

Lots perished. Lots normies were defined by ideology, religion and generation. Its the challenge ahead of all of us.

So, I listened the video, and the conclusion is: a silent generation is followed by a noisy generation, and then by another silent generation.
Because after the boomers there is genX who is not talked about, then genY who are as noisy as the boomers. Notice the boomers and millennials are always fighting each other.
Also, another curious thing, the video mentioned Kubrick, and it was the silent generation which delivered the peak of cinema (created by the greatest generation), while the boomers turned it into slop. In the same way, GenX delivered the peak of games (created by the boomers), while millennials turned it into slop. I wonder what GenZ is going to deliver.
