Yo, muh niggas of the forum! I’m unleashing a Pathfinder play-by-post rager, and we’re cracking open the haunted skull of the Carrion Crown! We’re rolling with the trad PF1 rules blended with Open Legend rules, and this ain’t your grandma’s turn-by-turn slog. You drop your character’s wildest intentions, and I’ll spin them into a dark, gripping tale, smashing through 10 turns at a clip to keep the blood pumping.

The Deets:

  • Adventure: Carrion Crown — gothic horror in the fog-veiled lands of Ustalav. Think haunted prisons, restless dead, whispering cults, and nightmares that bite and linger.
  • System: Pathfinder 1e, juiced up with Open Legend.
  • Rhythm: Expect frequent GM posts (multiple times a week when possible) to keep the terror rolling.
  • Character Creation: Level 1 using using traditional or unchained rules and any pf1 book as well as drop dead studios

The Scoop:

Memento Mori already deep in character-crafting mode and nearly locked and loaded. We’ve got space for 3 more renegades to gather in the shadowed town of Ravengro, and face the rising horrors of Carrion Crown.

Sound like your kind of nightmare? Drop your concept and let’s make some gothic legends.

How to Join the Fray:

  1. Drop a reply with your vibe—race, class, and a spark of your character’s soul or story. Rolling 6 sided die in six sets of 4 for your abilities if you want to fully customize your character. if you are already familiar with pathfinder or just want to explore options you can use https://pathcompanion.com/ to build your character
  2. Slide into my PMs to hammer out your sheet and any juicy plot hooks.
  3. Strap in and start posting when we kick this beast off!

Got questions? Scream ‘em below or PM me.

About Character Traits

You'll need to pick two traits for your character, a basic trait and campaign trait.

Basic traits you can find here:

Campaign traits are in the PDF but I'll also put them here for ease:

TraitNarrative ConnectionMechanical Benefit
Chance SaviorYou saved the Professor from a life-threatening accident in the past.+2 Trait bonus on Initiative checks.
Class TeacherYou were a student or colleague of the Professor at Lepidstadt University.+1 Trait bonus on Knowledge (History); it becomes a class skill.
Inspired by GreatnessYou grew up idolizing the Professor and strive to match his legacy.Choose one spell or class ability; gain a +1 bonus to its DC or a related check 1/day.
Making Good on PromisesYou owe the Professor a massive debt and are determined to pay it back.+2 Trait bonus on Fortitude saves.
On the PayrollYou were a hired hand or bodyguard for the Professor's expeditions.Starting gold is increased to a fixed 150 gp.
Subjective TruthYou spent years helping the Professor navigate social scandals and rumors.+2 Trait bonus on Bluff checks made to convince others you are telling the truth.
Teacher's PetThe Professor personally tutored you in the study of specific creatures.+2 Trait bonus on Knowledge checks to identify a specific monster type (e.g., Undead).

this is for fine tuning though theres alot you need to do. if you want to fine tune all the way. like feat and skill selection, picking a deity and so forth

How many players in this campaign? The Patriarchy @The Patriarchy
4. I hear it can squeeze in 5. otherwise you need to adjust the game for difficulty if you have more or less,

My plan is that we have 4 players. If less players join I will creaTe ADITIONAL characters. They will be controlled by me or spectators. When these characters die new people can have their character placed in the game.

I think we could bump it up to 5, maybe 6? Depends on how many end up joining. We have 3 so far confirmed?

Bro, you will have to write the tutorial first.

I just play Neverwinter Nights for the moment (to which fans ported virtually all D&D campaigns) and out of interested checked out how it would look like offline.

About so: read book on Forgotten Realms setting (PDF 320 pages), read on religions of Faerun (PDF 150 pages), then races of Faerun (PDF 150 pages). This excludng whatever basic rulebooks I have to peruse and expensive class cards to purchase.

That's why I was skeptical of playing online, and it's as bad as it seems. I pass.

you are the only confirmation the other two only expressed interest rentier @rentier wants to play "DND" irl so he might like my pf1 tabletop game. Some people just say DND and they mean any ttrpg
Schwarzwald @Schwarzwald just dropped his character in the other thread so I think he is playing. I'll assume Shinrinken @Shinrinken will come back before the game starts. How many players will we cap out at?

let me introduce you to Chestnut. Chestnut is a Highborn Elf(he is a halfling) of the Sun-Dancer line or at least, that is what his ancestral Memories tell him. Abandoned as a babe and raised by Elven nobles, he was tragically separated from his kin during a raid on their estate.

After graduating from the Bardic College (where he was clearly the star pupil), he met Professor Petros Lorrimor. While most lesser races were confused by Chestnut’s lineage, the Professor recognized a fellow scholar. He delighted in Chestnut’s 'Elven' lore and even acted as a mentor, often inviting Chestnut to discuss history over tea(where chestnut became teachers pet)...

As for traits, teachers pet duh...

Im confused so hes a halfling raised by elves? Elven Nobles?

this is a weird place for elves especially even nobles,

Also if you are talking about high elves as a race pathfinders sees all elves are the same but they adapt to environments

I encourage a more grimdark background. Ustalav is grimdark lite and the lowest fantasy in pathfinder similar to ravenloft

Ustalav is not near any elfgates or lands that I know of.

He’s a Halfling, but he was abandoned as a baby in the woods, which is the grimdark reality. The 'raised by Elven Nobles' part is how Chestnut remembers it, but since he's an unreliable narrator, that might just be a story he told himself to survive the trauma of being alone. Simply put he's a delusional halfing that knows too much about elves and thinks he's one.

My Character:

Aerel Feillendril is an elf cleric, a storied traveler and adventurer. Some years back, meeting by chance in a small shire by the Inner Sea, Aerel and Professor Lorrimor established a friendship over the few months they were based there. Before they parted, as a token of appreciation, Lorrimor gifted Aerel a magical artifact. Later on, this artifact ended up saving Aerel's life on one of his many adventures. Deeply indebted to the professor, Aerel was compelled to head to Ustalav when he found out about his will and passing.

Traits: Indomitable Faith, Making good on promises

You were born in a region where your faith was not popular, but you still have never abandoned it. Your constant struggle to maintain your own faith has bolstered your drive. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Will saves.
