By this I mean the social aspect of the internet specifically. Doesn’t feel like it provides any real significant value or utility nowadays.
I guess you could say it’s because there’s a lack of genuine interaction, that’s one part of it. But broadly speaking the medium itself has degraded and become over-saturated over time. It just followed the overall cultural and societal downward trend.
The current zeitgeist has spawned a new generation of extreme pessimists, misanthropes and narcissists, which has made overall discourse less pleasant.
Of course some of that leaks into meatspace but it stays heavily concentrated online and contaminates online spaces across the internet as a whole due to the anonymous and unfiltered nature of the web.
So yeah, it’s a systemic problem and touches chords surrounding people’s intra-personal relationships with one another and the nature of society as a whole. Tbh, I can’t really put too much blame on this generation of young people — yes, many are emotionally underdeveloped and mentally unstable but it is conditions and external forces out of their immediate control (some set out years before they could do anything about it) that have led to these outcomes.
Tbh I don’t really fuck with the internet, at least the social aspect nowadays, because I think the populace at large is kinda fucked in the head in some shape or form. Internet is still useful for vidya, porn, information, pirating random shit, etc.
