Every one of the mid-late 2000 pop songs that I hear at work is designed around trapping your brain into a specific scenario that is pleasurable that lasts forever with your sole focus on being in the moment. It creates this 'liminal' space in your mind where only this thing exists and exploits it. Classical music for example can do the same thing -- create a 'liminal' space in your mind -- but it takes you on a journey through the notes in a way the composer intended. I find myself being taken through various kinds of mental imagery when listening to songs like Morning Mood by Edvard Grieg, or Vivaldi's Four Seasons. They don't trap you in a specific place and then trail off into the night as if it's still going on in the background. It goes through a progression with specific markers and then it ends in a specific way. My intuition tells me that the nostalgia angle has been being abused longer than this most recent in-your-face version but I don't have a lot of proof for that. Infantilization of the human race is what they want. Through genetics, intelligence, emotions, their consumptions, everything. EVERYTHING is about dumbing-down and making humans into perpetual children reliant on the state.

Most hit-songs by Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Katty Perry and whatever, all have some hairy guitar-playing dude from Scandinavia participating in one way or another, it's all listed in the credits on Wikipedia page about any particular song, Max Martin and Shellback being the lead characters.
