When I was 7-13 my parents would take me to shopping centre in the city and the two mandatory places were McDonald's and big Electronics Store where I would spend time in the aisles with PC and PS games and look at all the titles filling the shelves looking for a cool new game that I'd want
I'd do this with my younger brother and we'd argue which game looked the most cool and fun to play
There was also a game rental place with an old guy and it was small and lacked the latest but we'd got there thinking there could be a hidden gem
I think searching for the next great game was fun and created this hype also the sense of uncertainty whether we picked the right one out of all the games-we could pick one game per month sometimes two if we begged
Nowadays I could pirate all the games there are and I delete them after 30 minutes
There is no reason to play, tbh it feels kind of empty
Everyone has access to all the games now and many people don't even finish the ones they buy. Other than digitalised hyper consumerism and ADHD the games themselves are diluted and long.
Also there won't be "I finished a game!" moment, it's more a "I can stop wasting my time with this game" moment
