I was observing that guy huberman nicknamed king of the grift. People asked why is he grifting if he was payed a ton of money for his social standing and stanford prestige alone.
People say hes greedy, I dont think so. I think he was a guy with academic prestige but low achievement, basically "a guy with a title", but he didnt discover anything, invent anything or do anything interesting with it.
In environments like stanford you will see kids aged 18 who build robots and invent something or discover something or do contributions that are significant. And you sit there "guy with a title" and maybe youre their professor, and the best you did in life was becoming mr stanford professor. Big boi achievement.
"A guy with a title" type of status puts strain on one sense of worth, because they simply went to a known university and they demonstrated a basic level of intellect in adapting to the culture, and learn the system, and achieve the status. Other than that, thats pretty much it. They have to "feel important" or they need to act important. The status they perform is very demanding, you cant really clown around if youre a mr guy with a title at stanford. Also you can suffer a greater amount of accuses of sexual misconduct and you got enemies around you. Theres gona be envious people who want your role as mr.professor stanford and they backstab you all day long.
Sure, you get selected, sure you get validated, sure you are "competent", sure you are "high status", sure people respect you and whatever you write on a book with your academia credentials tends to sell.
Now take a guy like that, put him in an hybrid system where he has his scientific authority "guy with a title" and then consume him, use media managers to consume his social status, and rearrange his life with a new circle of friends. Show him a new reality where status depends on approval of the parasocial bros who signal boost each other. Lets say you make him meet joe roagan, and its CIA basically, which is a military force. When Joe roagan intimidates someone you feel its totally real and he can have you killed and disappeared if he wants to. This level of social pressure will make you a protein shake seller, and all you gotta do is rearrange some of your assumptions and beliefs to the point you convince yourself selling protein shakes on the internet isnt dishonorable.
You can frame it like jordan peterson does "we live in a capitalism" you can come to believe it. Maybe deep down you dont believe it, but you can lie to yourself just enough, or accept one or 2 sponsorshits till the point all your contents are polluted with advertisement.
