What is an incel? What is "Incel ideology"?

In social media and legacy media there are many references to:
  • Incel culture ("jfl", "it's over", "sub5", "subhuman" etc.)
  • Incel communities (*.is, other platforms etc.)
  • "Incel ideology" (mentioned in the news)
What is this "Incel ideology" which is mentioned in the news?

People may be or remain single for a variety of reasons, including (but not limited to) one or several of the following:

Some single people regard and appreciate solitude as an opportunity. Some people stay single by choice. In addition to choosing singleness as a preferential option, there are also those who forgo marriage due to religious orders that prescribe its forbearance. These religious traditions include:

  • The Christian monastic cultures of Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Oriental Orthodoxy
  • The specific Buddhist monastic traditions

The article linked above lists involuntary causes as reasons for being single. Many in the incelosphere consider being single/celibate for these reasons as inceldom but not everyone who is single/celibate for those reasons agrees.

The belief that anyone who is single/celibate for involuntary reasons is an incel is an incelosphere belief and part of "incel ideology". This is the first "incel" belief and a positive indicator of "incel ideology".

:bluepill:
The 'nice guy' complex and the friendzone is the dreaded situation that many males grow into. The path into the manosphere begins with a google search on how to get sex and why being "nice" does not work as a strategy.

The realisation that morality and dating are different is where the blue pill ends.

:redpill:
The red pill and the blue pill are metaphors borrowed from The Matrix by online men to choices men make in learning about the nature of life as a man. Taking the blue pill is continuing to ignore how life experiences as a man differ from mainstream media. Taking the red pill is to learn the disturbing truth and to go into the rabbit hole. The red pill is the acceptance of the social sexual dimorphism.

In the film The Matrix, the main character Neo (played by Keanu Reeves) is offered the choice between a red pill and a blue pill by rebel leader Morpheus (played by Laurence Fishburne). Morpheus says "You take the blue pill... the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill... you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes." It is implied that the blue pill is a sedative that would cause Neo to think that all his most recent experiences were a hallucination, so that he can go back to living in the Matrix's simulated reality. The red pill, on the other hand, serves as a "location device" to locate the subject's body in the real world and to prepare them to be "unplugged" from the Matrix.

Red pill communities online (PUA, LMS etc.) focus on self-improvement from a dating perspective and have introduces terms like:
  • Sexual marketplace
  • DHV and DLV
  • Game
  • Amog (later mog)

:blackpill:
The black pill is an extension to the metaphor from The Matrix for the acceptance of hard limits to the self-improvement outside of personal control. It is the realisation that not every man who self-improves will have the results of Di Caprio or prime Chico Lachowski.

Most incels have a defeatist black pill world view and apply it to the majority of the men. Incels divide the male population according to their success in the "sexual marketplace":
  • Chads - Top of the male hierarchy
  • Normies - Struggle for sex
  • Sub 5s - Bottom tier men, have no sex

Success is determined by genetics and life circumstances outside of ones control, there is little improvement. This is the second incel belief, rejection of self-improvement and defeatism.

:incel:

Even then, some incels go further beyond and divide society into providers of sex and consumers of sex and present history as a class struggle between the providers and consumers. Radical feminist ideologies also project their self-loathing on the opposite sex, trying to convince society that all men hate women.

"No one deserves to experience so much pleasure, especially since some humans get to experience it while some are denied it." - Elliott Rodger (Epilogue, Manifesto)

The phrase "since some humans get to experience it while some are denied it", divides humans into havers and have-nots. It is a Marxist statement because sex is the determiner of consumer status and sex is what causes class inequality between consumers.

All incel historical analysis is Marxist because everything is viewed from the perspective of the sexual marketplace and sexual class struggles. Overtly Marxist incel beliefs are sometimes called Marxist-Rodgerism, after Elliott Rodgers attitudes towards sex.

Every interaction is judged from the perspective of the sexual marketplace and sexual class struggles, this is the rest of "incel ideology". This describes the inceldom subforum of incels.is.

Summary of incel beliefs/attitudes:

I think Incel is just a label for social-phenomenon, a byproduct of evolutionary biology, tech and social-dynamics. I don't think there is inherit ideology linked to it.
The label has different meanings. it is a self-identity for a culture and it is also used to describe a social-phenomenon. You're not wrong but there are ideas that are associated with incels.

I think most of the ideas associated with incels comes from outside projections, from journalists , academics or normies trying to categorize or pathologize it.

Yes
Success is determined by life circumstances outside of ones control, there is little improvement
A person's starting life circumstances are largely determined by factors outside of one's control. The Whitepill argues however that the individual has some power to be able to shape some aspects in his life to result in more optimal life outcomes.
Everything can and should be judged from the sexual marketplace and sexual class struggles
No, not necessarily, life is more nuanced than that. The Whitepill is an individualist philosophy which provides suggestions and guidance on things a Blackpilled person can take to improve existing life outcomes, but it's ultimately up for the individual to decide what's best and most optimal for his own life.

That is when they say "incel ideology" and write articles about incel communities drive engagement and push views. There are ideas that incels express that other communities do not express.

When you have a cesspool of social outcasts, all kinds of ideas emerge. But these are just individual opinions, not a unified ideology tied to their situation.

You don't self-identify as incel, it's a state of being. Not constant, can depend on location etc. Rare for a chad to be. Maybe if he is in prison, you could call him that.
The term is not used by most people though and the associated attitudes do not affect them. Most "incels" simply are not "incels"
