Those two examples were very clear. Their desire for death occurred to them well before their adopted reasons. The other one, Morita, was writing love letters to death in high school.

I'm not writing it off, in fact I sense that Mishima might have been hiding some absurd existential pain but it's something I can't really say because I haven't read ALL of his works. If there was honesty in the matter the innocent could be saved from this. Mishima dissuaded multiple people from committing seppuku with him. If he gave them those orders they would have died with him.
