recently i had a conversation with a "friend" who argued that our QoL is the best that it's ever been, that immigration is a nonissue and, since it supports economic growth, should be treated as objectively good. economic growth is the "nicest" indicator that we have for happiness... that things are better now than in the 70s-90s, from the days where there were red rattler trains lined with asbestos, white children running around in sunsuits, loose flyscreens and unguents your only concern for the summer...

yes, we have more purchasing power... alright, the cost of living isn't great, but we have more material amenities than ever... wait, what do you mean that we might be subject to danger from subversive interest groups? that can't be, we reign under a civic ideal, you will have the same priorities as i do -- depoliticization is good, chuddie...

The main message is that modern culture is a surrogate activity and humans are naturally meant to be hunting for their own foods in huts and would be happier this way. It is just more anarcho-primitivist drivel really, Ted himself was an outcast and so of course he espoused the view that modern society is flawed—it was flawed for him. I would just practice mindfulness so you can appreciate novelties such as chocolate, the internet and working plumbing that people take for granted.

I would rather live in a unified world of altruism and 'surrogate activities in goyland' instead of an amalgamation of ethnic enclaves fighting for resources in mud huts.
