An incel is first and foremost a label that someone puts upon themselves and incel once they put the label upon themselves it means usually that they want sex and a relationship with a woman but women don't want a relationship or sex with them. Even if someone is a virgin if they never cared about getting a relationship or sex with a woman then they aren't an incel.

Problem is that the lgbt spectrum put everyone who is "not conformed to straight marriage" into one of its boxes.
People who fap to anime characters, for instance, are fictosexuals, which also have a stripes flag.
So if you have no luck with women, you will be stuck into some of these categories, like you or not. Even if you dont even think about the subject.
I dont even consider celibacy as real when you are fapping, because for me masturbation is a form of sex as well. Still incel is what it is, because I'm socially awkward and dont engage with women.

The culture is the natural end of the word, they're having /pol/ style conversations about being "involuntarily celibate". Most people have been involuntarily single at some point of their lives for most of history, especially before birth control.

Unless a person is handicapped, they're not really involuntarily celibate. The lifestyle changes maybe too much but that's another question — they're no longer incels if they're doing the math and concluding it's too much.

Real misogyny/misandry exists and incel communities would be the perfect alibi for both of them.
