It just gave an outlet for people with zero concern for how they make other people feel to ghost and flake on a never ending stream of people.
I would say 95% of people meet that description, finding a decent human being is honestly like finding a needle in the haystack, even the ones who seem decent on the surface are often shitty creatures.

Conditions have gotten worse overall, despite the ease technology has brought us. US-centric, but wages (adjusted for inflation) stagnant for most with average household hours going up (due to women entering the workforce).

Our tech and lifestyles also yield these repetitive stimulation loops that keep us in a low state of consciousness. talking about people acting like "NPCs," I think it's a real thing and the average person is moving in that direction.

A population not using second order thinking that is also under more stress due to bad conditions... yeah its a recipe for people to look out for themselves. their own mental health needs aren't met.
